  • William Morris, designer, artist and writer was the central figure in the British Arts and Crafts Movement. Morris was born in London on 24th of March 1834 and graduated from Oxford University in 1856. A committed conservationist and socialist, he dedicated his life to the idea that art should improve the lives of ordinary people.
  • Morris’s association with the Victoria and Albert Museum began in 1865 when his decorative arts firm Morris, Marshall, Faulkner & Co. was commissioned to decorate the First Class Dining Room in the Museum. As an influential supporter of the V&A, Morris helped to shape the collections, playing a private role in major acquisitions and contributing to the decoration of the building.
  • Inspired by William Morris’s designs, the V&A fabric collection (William Morris 2017) captures his love of wildflowers, plants and birds, enabling you to bring the beauty of nature into everyday life and the home.
