Craft and Quilt Fair – Canberra
August 10 @ 10:00 am - August 13 @ 4:30 pm$19
A great line up of displays and guest artists are a feature of the fair… all brought together to delight visitors and inspire their own craft work.
This year Margaret will be running a workshop on Indigenous Art Fabrics and using these rich and diverse patterns to create stunning Australian quilts. The workshops will run daily at 12.30pm in Workshop 3. Workshops are free and no bookings are required. Come along and be inspired!
Highlights include the spectacular Canberra Quilters Members’ Exhibition, and the Best of Australia Quilts – best of show from each state quilt show in 2016. More displays and special guests will be announced closer to the fair.
One of the highlights of the quilting year in Australia is the Best of Australia quilts, submitted from state guild shows around the country in order to determine who will win the National Quilt Award.
Each state and territory submits a quilt, to be judged by a panel of three independent quilt guild judges in a state-of-origin style competition at AQC.
The winner is announced at the 2017 AQC Gala Dinner in front of an audience of hundreds of passionate quilters and industry stakeholders. It is a highlight of an Australian quilter’s journey. The National Quilt Award and the Best of Australia display is sponsored by Bernina.
This new exhibition, Collage to Stitch, is the work of four South Australian textile artists and is the culmination of one years’ exploration of collage as a tool for developing ideas, originating from a workshop with textile artist Carolyn Sullivan. The themes chosen and the approaches taken reflect personal passions and generally revolve around nature. Flowers, trees and gardens were frequent topics for reflection by artists Maxine Fry, Ruth Galpin, Suzanne Gummow and Sandra Obst.
See the collages and the developing textile designs along with the final textile artworks. One of the artists will also be on hand
